Images without Borders

January 30, 2010

By now we have all seen the pictures, we’ve all heard the stories, both extraordinary and heartbreaking, coming out of the earthquake in Haiti on January 12th. Through my own heartache for the plight of the several thousands affected and my own desire to help those who are putting their own lives aside to help strangers in need, I have the honor of joining many amazing photographers in a project called Images without Borders. All the proceeds, minus a small printing fee, for select, limited edition fine art prints will got to Doctors without Borders. Here’s more from the website:

This project emerged because of the crisis in Haiti, but has taken on a larger life. Because of our affiliation with Doctors without Borders, we plan to continue our support as future crises emerge and daily work continues for those who suffer around the world. Buyers receive a stunning art print from a premier world photographer and their contribution goes directly to the places that need it most. Each print is offered from Images without Borders at a limit of ten before being pulled from the collection and returned to the artist. This long-term project aids Doctors without Borders in their efforts on the ground in Haiti and the world.

Below are a selection of photographs I have contributed, that you may purchase right now through the Images without Borders website. I have also contributed several iphoneography photos from my recent Project 365, also shown below. Take a few minutes to check out the IWOB website and view the many AMAZING photographs that have been donated. Remember, though, these are limited edition prints, so you better hurry!!

iPhone Photos

We shot these portraits in early January and boy was it cold! Time was of the essence, so rescheduling was not an option, however everyone in this super cool family was a trooper! We braved the 30 degree temps (and wind that made it feel even colder) together and got some great photos and even shared many laughs. I always love photographing families and children, but there is something about photographing couples who are so deeply in love that is so rewarding. Love is such a powerful thing and to be able to capture even a glimmer of it between two people is such a privilege.

I have started a new photography project: to take and post one photo each day in 2010 taken with my iPhone. I’ve always wanted to do a 365, but the thought of carrying around my big dslr, finding something to shoot, processing, and posting everyday… OH and also working, raising a child, being a wife and all that life in general entails, seemed way too daunting. I do however carry my iPhone with me everywhere and have really enjoyed experimenting with its on board camera and processing. So my first project 365 will be with my iPhone. I am very excited about this project. With each project I do, I always grow and learn so much. I’ll be posting this iphoneography project on my daily photo blog, or you can follow me of twitter, where I’ll be tweeting about them. Business as usual will of course continue concurrent to this new project and I have MANY new plans for 2010 and beyond that I am way excited about! Happy New Year!!

Here is Day 1.

Baby Elise | Newborn Portraits

December 19, 2009

My last photo session of 2009 was of Baby Elise. What a cutie she is! You would never know it, but she was fighting a nasty chest cold. We were worried that the shoot would need to be postponed, but as soon as the camera came out, she turned into quite the sweet little model. Here are some of my favorites from the session.

The Resolve Revisited

December 19, 2009

I posted some photos a while back for a special project I was working on called The Resolve. The Resolve is a worship album created by the band at my church, Kinetic Church. They released the album last month and it’s currently available for purchase through iTunes and Amazon. I highly recommend this modern worship album, not only because it’s amazing, but also because my husband plays on it :). I also wanted to showcase the album artwork and original photo used to create it. Below is the album cover which was designed by the incredibly talented lead pastor, Dave Milam. He used the photograph I took below it as a basis for the design.

Carly | 18 Month Portraits

December 13, 2009

I have been able to watch (and photograph) Carly since she was an itty bitty baby and it’s so fun to see how little ones grow and change. Carly is now 18 months old and always on the move! I took both outdoor and studio portraits of sweet Carly and both were so much fun! Here are some of my favorites from the session.

Taking a break from photographing little ones, this shoot was of three beautiful sisters. What was neat about this session is that each time one of them passes a major milestone (graduation, engagement, etc), they have a portrait of the 3 of them done. And because Leslie is graduating and Stacey is getting married, I was bestowed with the honor of taking this special family portrait. We had so much fun catching up (it’s worth mentioning that I grew up living mere yards from these ladies). It was so much fun and they were such great models! Here are some of my favorites.
